One Day in Iraq

This new blog that just launched illustrates the financial cost of the war. It maintains that every day in Iraq costs $332.3 million dollars and it poses the question of what we could accomplish if they “took off” just one day. Their numbers are staggering – and got me thinking. Here is what I found:

For the cost of just One Day in Iraq, we could rebuild 2215 houses in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. Brad Pitt’s Make It Right initiative sets the cost of one house at approximately $150K. According to a Scholastic article, the Lower 9th Ward was home to over 5,000 homes, nearly all of which were destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. So, for 2 days, we could rebuild the whole thing. Jeez.

Or, for all of you theater lovers and unicorn enthusiasts, you and a friend could attend 1,490,134 performances of Broadway’s Xanadu.

Thanks to Ryan for the lead on the Iraq site.
